Twenty Years of Research
The 20 years, which Dr. Napoleon Hill spent, in compiling his first work are astounding! It was during these years that Dr. Napoleon Hill became associated with many of the greatest financial giants America ever produced. As doors readily swung open through the force of Carnegie's introductory letter, those same doors remained open through the force of Hill's spirited drive and determination to succeed.

With the advent of World War I, Dr. Napoleon Hill was assigned to Woodrow Wilson's staff to serve as a public relations advisor. While serving the nation in this capacity, Hill continued to display the practicality of the principles he had compiled.

A few days later, Dr. Napoleon Hill visited the capital once again. This time the sound of guns could no longer be heard, this time there was no war by name, and yet in reality a deadly war was raging within the boundaries of the United States; an internal war, an economic war, for the depression had come and with it, a threat to America's future. Napoleon Hill consented to serve as an advisor to Franklin Roosevelt, and thus he joined in the battle against fear and financial ruin.

It was during the depression years, and those immediately following, that Dr. Hill began testing and refining the principles taught in our programmes.

The Science of Success is based upon the principle that "whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve." "You can," states Dr. Hill, "be anything you want to be, if you only believe with sufficient conviction and act in accordance with your faith." When asked how one is to treat failure and defeat, Dr. Hill replied, "Treat them as temporary ... for no man is defeated until he admits defeat in his own mind. Let temporary defeat be a stepping stone to success, for with every adversity there is an equivalent or greater seed of benefit, if you look for it. The problem with many people today is that they fail to look for adversity's hidden seed of benefit."
